About
Arithmetic, sources and who runs it.
Therm & Term does the arithmetic of a natural-gas supply offer on numbers you type from the offer and your bill. It predicts no prices and recommends no company.
Independence
Therm & Term is independent. Its only income is the optional File Pass and Offer Sheet. It sells no gas and is not a gas utility, supplier, broker or marketplace: it lists no offers, takes no commission or referral fee and never asks for a gas account number. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by any gas utility, gas supplier, state utility commission or the U.S. Energy Information Administration, and it has no connection with any business that used this web address before. gaspowered.us is only this site's address.
The math
- Units. Every price becomes dollars per therm: per Ccf ÷ heat factor; per Mcf ÷ (10 × heat factor); per Dth ÷ 10. The heat factor is yours, or EIA's 2025 U.S. average of 1.037 therms per Ccf.
- Use. Twelve monthly amounts from your bill, or one yearly total spread evenly. The months start at the month the offer would start.
- The offer, first 12 months. Each month's therms × that month's offer price (the intro price, then the price after it), plus the monthly fee for each month on the offer, plus a sign-up fee, minus a sign-up reward. If the term is shorter than 12 months and the offer goes back to the default price, the later months are counted at the default price with no fee; otherwise at the offer's last price.
- The default. The same therms × today's default price, held flat for every month, because nobody knows what it will be.
- Break-even. The offer's 12-month cost ÷ the 12-month therms: the average default price at which the two cost the same. When a term shorter than 12 months goes back to the default price, the months after it cost the same either way, so the break-even counts only the months on the offer: their cost ÷ their therms.
- Fee to leave. A flat fee, or the fee × the months left. The most it can cost is leaving in the first month, with the whole term left.
- Look-back. Last year's 12 default prices from your old bills × the same months' therms, against the offer over the same months. Months back on the default after a short term are priced at last year's default on both sides.

Not advice
Therm & Term is arithmetic on the numbers you type, not legal, financial or energy advice. It cannot see your contract: read it, and ask the supplier and your utility before you sign.
Who runs it
Therm & Term is made and run by WeldonPC.com, a computer and web business in Northeast Ohio. There is no help desk for gas questions: your supplier, your utility and your state's utility commission answer those. For a problem with this site, contact WeldonPC.
